sometimes you write a song and you think it is about one thing. then, years later, you recall the details of the days and weeks surrounding it's creation and, with ice-formed clarity, the certainty in words, moments, exchanges, sentiments and emotions reveal themselves and you realize you actually wrote it about something wholly different. you remember playing it, recording it and performing it with your band and this wholly different thing being there with every breathe, riding every synapse, referenced in each note. not like some grey re-remembrance or re-creation, but the actual memory of thoughts, objects and triggers as they happened during those days, those moments. sometimes we wear colorful masks in the present that only the future itself can unveil. sometimes we hide away until love and light find us and melt away our self-delusion and doubt. sometimes we find ourselves skating on star ice.
